There are many challenges facing healthcare professionals and patients who are trying to get the most out of the complex care delivery system. Weaving real connections between all parties reduces the stress associated with illness and uncertainly; it also serves to make everyone feel valued and respected. Across academic medicine’s tripartite mission of research, education, and patient care, CHM is poised to spark substantive progress and have great impact.  

  • Education

    The Center for Humanizing Medicine acknowledges that there is great room for improvement in how we train future generations of healthcare professionals to serve patients’ needs. We are committed to improving the effectiveness of this education in innovative ways.

  • Research

    At CHM, we are actively engaged in research to discover and understand best practices for communicating with patients, using the electronic health record, and supporting more effective collaboration across healthcare teams. We are also mentoring many to advance this work.

  • Patient Care

    It is no secret that receiving clinical care in contemporary healthcare settings can be challenging and dehumanizing. CHM is committed to finding solutions that will make the experience more satisfying and meaningful for patients and all members of the healthcare team.
